Jazz Touring Network

The Jazz Touring Network is a multi-year program designed to expand the presentation of jazz throughout the mid-Atlantic region by providing selected presenters with the tools necessary to develop and sustain the art form as an ongoing part of their annual programming. The program consists of three components: knowledge building and information exchange, infrastructure development, and funding for regional jazz touring.

Since 2001, the Foundation has supported 28 presenting organizations through the Jazz Touring Network. Each year, four-to-six presenters are added to the network through a competitive, open application process.  Applicants must be established performing arts presenters, working with communities underserved by the arts, who have limited experience presenting jazz.

Two Jazz Touring Network sessions are convened annually at various locations in the mid-Atlantic region that provide members with opportunities for professional development, peer mentoring, and planning for touring projects. Tours are initiated by the network membership with artists identified through a collaborative selection process taking into consideration the institutional capacity, profile, and constituencies of participating organizations.

The network is comprised of a two-tier structure including current and alumni members of the program. Current members receive financial support for attendance at six network sessions and fee subsidy for up to six touring engagements at their venues over a four-year grant period.  Alumni members receive no financial support through the program, but are invited to join in network sessions, participate in tour development and implementation, and benefit from potential cost efficiencies through involvement in block-booked artist engagements.

Funding for the Jazz Touring Network comes from the National Endowment for the Arts Regional Touring Program.
