Jazz Touring Network Holds Fall Session

Preservation Hall Jazz Band Drum On November 12-13, 2006 current Jazz Touring Network (JTN) participants (Classes 4-6) attended a professional development and networking session at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center (CSPAC) in College Park, MD. The agenda included sessions on programming jazz and jazz audience development, as well as time to discuss artists for 2007-2008 tours. Faculty included Jeanna Disney, a booking agent with the International Music Network, and Ruth Waalkes and Paul Brohan of CSPAC’s Cultural Participation Program. The group also was able to enjoy a performance by the Maria Schneider Orchestra, and met with Ms. Schneider the next day to discuss her work and career.

JTN participants have been funded for engagements by the following artists in 2006-07: pianist, Cyrus Chestnut with gospel choir and/or vocalist, Carla Cook; saxophonist Ravi Coltrane; vocalist Rachael Price; and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

In addition to JTN tours, several presenters are participating in a February 07 tour of the Don Byron Plays Junior Walker project through the 2006-07 Mid Atlantic Tours program. Presenters will be eligible for fee support for Jason Moran and the Bandwagon for 2007-08 Mid Atlantic Tours.
