Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation recently announced its membership for the seventh round of the Jazz Touring Network ("JTN"). This year one organization, the Weinberg Center for the Arts in Frederick MD, has been chosen to join eight current JTN members and 13 alumni JTN members.

The JTN is a multi-year program designed to expand the presentation of jazz throughout the mid-Atlantic region. Each participating presenter receives support in three main areas: knowledge-building and information exchange; network infrastructure development; and funding for regional jazz tours.

JTN members will convene this November 6-7 at Rutgers-Camden Center for the Arts in Camden, NJ to discuss upcoming projects including tours of Chris Botti, Bill Frisell, Russell Malone, and Omar Sosa. For a complete list of tour dates and venues, click here.

MAAF Honors Benny Golson with the Mellon Jazz 2007 Living Legacy Award
Benny Golson receives the Living Legacy Award

Jazz saxophonist Benny Golson was awarded the Mellon Jazz 2007 Living Legacy Award at a special ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts on October 12, 2007. Mr. Golson was joined by family members, friends, and jazz lovers, as he celebrated this special honor at a reception followed by a concert by 2006 Awardee Oliver Lake in the KC Jazz Club. Also joining the celebration, was Dr. Billy Taylor, who announced that the Kennedy Center would be recognizing Mr. Golson with an All-Star Birthday Bash in early 2009.

Special thanks to our returning sponsor, The Bank of New York Mellon, and our new sponsors, Amtrak and the General Motors Foundation for making the evening so special!
