Adam Bernstein Joins Staff at Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation
Bernstein to Fill New Position of Deputy Director, Programs

Baltimore, MD– Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of Adam Bernstein as Deputy Director, Programs. Mr. Bernstein will be responsible for all aspects of Foundation programs, including development and management, research, evaluation, and budgeting.  He can be reached at 410.539.6656 x 114 or via email at adam@midatlanticarts.org after May 1, 2006.

Mr. Bernstein served as Director, Advised Funds and Regranting Programs for Arts International (New York, NY) from 2000-2003.  He was the Senior Program Officer at the Charles E. Culpeper Foundation (Stamford, CT) and, after its merger with the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (New York, NY), Program Officer, Arts & Culture from 1996-2000. Prior, Mr. Bernstein served as the program officer responsible for the performing arts at the Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation (New York, NY).

Working as a consultant, Mr. Bernstein has provided a range of services such as evaluation, organizational assessment, program development, and strategic and facilities planning to not-for-profit cultural institutions and foundations.  His clients have included Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Nonprofit Finance Fund, The Pew Charitable Trusts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Joyce Theater.

In a volunteer capacity, Mr. Bernstein is currently the President of Danspace Project in New York City and on the Board of Directors of Art Matters (New York, NY).  Previously, he has served on the boards of Dance/USA (Washington, DC), the Henson International Festival of Puppet Theatre (New York, NY), and Small Press Distribution (Berkeley, CA). Mr. Bernstein has been a frequent guest speaker and panelist at nonprofit organizations across the country.

On his appointment, Mr. Bernstein said, “I’m thrilled to be joining Executive Director Alan Cooper and the dedicated staff at the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation.  The richness and diversity of the arts in the mid-Atlantic region are truly extraordinary.  I look forward to contributing to the Foundation’s efforts to expand opportunities for the area’s artists and cultural organizations, and to enrich the experiences of their audiences.”

Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation fosters and supports arts programming for the benefit of arts organizations, artists and audiences and encourages exchanges that link the arts resources of the mid-Atlantic region to the rest of the nation and the world. The Foundation was created in 1979 and is a private non-profit organization that is closely allied with the region’s state arts councils and the National Endowment for the Arts. It combines funding from state and federal resources with private support from corporations, foundations, and individuals to address needs in the arts from a regional perspective. The region includes nine states and jurisdictions: The District of Columbia, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia and West Virginia.
